Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Tteokbokki:

  2. 2 tsp Sesame oil
  3. Sesame seeds
  4. Spring onion or scallions – chopped
  5. The Broth (see Notes โœ๐Ÿ“)
  6. 2-3 C water
  7. 1/4 c big dried anchovies
  8. Few pieces of Kelps
  9. The Paste
  10. 3 tbsp korean chilli paste (gochujang)
  11. 1 tsp finely minced garlic
  12. 1 tbsp korean chilli flakes (gochugaru)
  13. 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  14. 1 tbsp sugar (or to taste)

  16. 1 . You can also use store-bought anchovy broth
  17. 2 . Or use pre-packed anchovy soup packet to make the broth
  18. 3 . If you dont hv any of the above, use anchovy seasoning powder
  19. 4 . Anchovy broth can also be substituted with chicken broth
  20. 5 . Feel free to add fish cakes or fishballs
  21. 6 . Adjust chili flakes to your liking
  22. 7 . Please note that korean chili paste comes in mild, hot & vry hot

Instructions to make to make Tteokbokki

  1. The Broth – Place all ingredients for Broth in a pot and leave to boil over medium heat.
  2. The Paste – In the meantime, place all ingredients for the paste in a small bowl. Mix well. Keep aside.
  3. Back to the broth, once boiling, remove the anchovies & the kelps. Still boiling on the stove, add the paste (chili paste/mixture). Stir well until it dissolves in the broth.
  4. Next, add the rice cakes and fish cakes (if using) and keep cooking so you have a good soft rice cakes. Stir and leave to simmer until sauce is slightly thickened to your liking. Ajust seasonings accordingly. Once done, immediately add sesame oil and chopped spring onion or scallions. Serve hot with sprinkles of sesame seeds.
  5. Feel free to add your own favourite veggies, hard boiled eggs, crab sticks, fish cakes or fish balls.
